In Vietnamese culture, Nhậu is a is a cherished social ritual - and informal gathering centered around eating, drinking, and enjoying each other’s company. More than a meal, it’s about the connection and presence.

For it’s third iteration, Nhậu Dinner has been brought to Norfolk as a 2025 Community Art Project of the Yale Norfolk School of Art. While the gathering may take a new form, the intention stays the same: to celebrate art, culture, and the joy of sharing a meal. We have collaborated with nine artists (ranging from students to teaching fellows of the Yale Norfolk School of Art 2025 cohort) to create large-scale tablecloth artworks that become both dining surfaces and conversation starters for 75 participants. The menu was developed from family recipes of friends and community members.
